A cigarette could have been the origin of a fire that broke out this Saturday at the Hospital da Senhora da Oliveira and forced the evacuation of 12 patients.

The flames broke out around 4:55 am in a room on the 8th floor, Surgery III – Urology and ENT and forced the evacuation of 12 patients who escaped unharmed.
According to the Guimarães Fire Department Commander, a cigarette was found in the room where the fire occurred that could explain the origin of the flames. Bento Marques highlighted the work of the Hospital professionals, on floors 7, 8 and 9 in the evacuation of patients.

“It was a complex job. In addition to evacuating the patients, it was necessary to combat the flames that damaged the entire structure of the four and then ventilate the floor due to the intense smoke it caused, ”he said.

The flames were fought by 10 elements and 4 vehicles from the Guimarães fire department. The job was completed at 6.10 am.
