Pope Francis insisted this Friday on the “need for brotherhood” on all continents, in times of the Covid-19 pandemic, and urged that there be vaccines for everyone, in his traditional Christmas message.

“In this historic moment, marked by the ecological crisis, and by serious economic and social imbalances, aggravated by the new coronavirus pandemic, we need fraternity more than ever,” the Pope said in the message, which this year was delivered in the Inside the S Pedro Basilica, without the presence of Catholics, due to the measures imposed to combat the pandemic.

The Pope also called for vaccines for all, “especially for the most vulnerable,” and prayed that closed nationalisms, individualism and the law of the market do not prevent everyone from getting vaccinated.

The American continent was also mentioned in the message, particularly affected by infections with the new coronavirus.

“May the eternal Word of the Father be a source of hope for the American continent, particularly affected by the coronavirus, which has aggravated the innumerable sufferings that oppress it, many times aggravated by the consequences of corruption and drug trafficking,” said the Supreme Pontiff .

From the blessing room of the Basilica of San Pedro, Francisco also made reference to Chile and asked that the child Jesus “help overcome the recent social tensions” and asked that the “suffering of the Venezuelan people” end.

The covid-19 pandemic caused at least 1,731,936 deaths as a result of more than 78.8 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
