New cases remain above 4,000. North exceeds 200 thousand infections since the beginning of the pandemic | Coronavirus

Portugal registered, in the last day, 65 more deaths from covid-19 and 4146 new cases of infection by SARS-CoV-2, according to the bulletin of the General Directorate of Health released on Friday. Since December 23, new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection have remained above four thousand in Portugal, despite a gradual decrease. Hospitalizations have also been declining since December 21. The North region has already exceeded 200 thousand cases since the beginning of the pandemic.


Thus, the latest official data show more than 2,593 recovered people (out of a total of 315,126 recovered identified since the beginning of the pandemic) and more than 1,488 active cases (out of a total of 70,178 active cases). This number is achieved after subtracting recovered cases and deaths from the total number of infections.


In total, there are 2,754 people hospitalized, 504 of whom deserve intensive care, less than 99 people hospitalized in the infirmary and less one in intensive care.


Since the start of the pandemic, the country has recorded 6,478 deaths (a slightly higher number among men) and 391,782 confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infections (more women than men).


North exceeds 200 thousand cases since March

The North was the region of the country that recorded more deaths (29) and more new cases (1,697), in the last day, according to data from the DGS bulletin. It is followed by the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley, with 23 more deaths and 1,463 new cases. Since the start of the pandemic, the North has recorded 3,030 deaths and 201,417 confirmed infections. Lisbon and the Tagus Valley 2,243 deaths and 126,275 cases.


In the Central region, there were ten more deaths and 620 new cases, with a total of 926 deaths and 43,892 infections. In Alentejo, there were three more deaths and 201 new cases, the total since the start of the pandemic of 183, in terms of deaths, and 10,128 already confirmed infections. The Algarve did not register any deaths in the last day, with 125 more infections. In this area of ​​the country, 64 people have died from covid-19 and 7031 have been infected.


In the Azores and Madeira, there were also no deaths on the last day. The Azores counted 29 new infections. The total, to date, is 21 deaths and 1,662 confirmed cases in that archipelago. In Madeira, there were 11 new cases. Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 11 deaths and 1,377 infections.
