Since the beginning of the pandemic, Portugal has registered a total of 391,782 confirmed cases of Covid-19. Only in the last 24 hours 4,146 additional infections were reported, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) released this Friday. The number of fatalities from the new coronavirus increased to 6,478 on Christmas Eve, and between the day of the Conssoada and this December 25 there were 65 more deaths.

The DGS also reveals that there are 90,093 contacts under surveillance by the health authorities, which corresponds to an increase of 1,115 compared to the previous day. The number of active Covid-19 cases continues to rise, now numbering 70,178 (plus 1,488). On the other hand, the number of people recovered from the disease rose to 315,126, after 2,593 more were cured.

The Minister of Health, Marta Temido, announced the day before yesterday that the North American pharmaceutical company Pfizer anticipated the vaccine distribution schedule, which means that Portugal will receive a second dose of 70,200 units next Monday, which will be added to those that were (9,750 doses) and that will begin to be administered on December 27, the day after ‘landing’ in the country.

The national vaccination plan stipulates that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines against Covid-19 will begin to be administered between December 27 and 29, being the first batch of 9,750 units and aimed at health professionals. The number remains, but 70,200 more will arrive early next week.

“It means that this December we will have an arrival of this new Pfizer vaccine that reaches 79,950 doses, divided into these two deliveries,” said Marta Temido, at a press conference. “As far as we know at this time, the total number of vaccines in the first quarter will not change,” said the minister, at a press conference.
