Trio kidnaps taxi driver on A25

Two men and a woman were arrested in flagrante delicto by the GNR, this Thursday morning, for the crimes of kidnapping, coercion and illegal possession of firearms.

In a statement, the security force explains that it received a complaint, around 6:40 am, that a taxi was traveling on the A25 at high speed, coming from the Castelo Branco area, and that the driver “would be threatened by a firearm and being forced to take three citizens to the Braga area ”.

The GNR military managed to detect the vehicle in the Viseu area and ended up intercepting it near node A25 with the A1, in Aveiro.

GNR also seized a 12-gauge shotgun and a knife.

In addition to the detainees, two men, aged 19 and 23, and a woman, aged 20, also found a two-year-old boy in the car, a “direct relative” of the suspects.

The 37-year-old taxi driver was not injured.

The motives for the kidnapping are not yet known. The detainees and the child are in the custody of GNR and the Judicial Police (PJ) have been contacted.
