“It was a shock when I found out that my ‘brother’ had died.” The words are from Manuel Santos, who was a friend of Matheus, since the 57-year-old Brazilian singer went to live with his family in Recarei, in Paredes.

Excited, he revealed that Matheus had heart problems and that he did not want to go to Brazil for fear of the virus that ended up robbing him of his life.

“He didn’t want to go. I was with him the day before the trip and he told me he was scared, but the family really wanted to spend Christmas in Prudente and, therefore, they were going to want to,” explained Manuel Santos . Edílson Rodrigues, better known as Matheus, left for Brazil on December 11 and it was also on the plane that he had the first symptoms of Covid-19.

“He called me and told me that he had been tested and that it was positive, but he also said he was fine,” he explained. However, after two days, the country singer took a turn for the worse. He had to be hospitalized and intubated. During this period he had kidney problems. He ended up dying on Tuesday at the Santa Casa de Misericórdia in Presidente Prudente, his homeland. Before being admitted, the singer will have commented that he should have been infected in a television program in Portugal.

Matheus, his wife Fabiani and their children – Lara, 16, and Matheus Júnior, 11 – have lived in Recarei since August 2019. “He was a beloved and humble person. Despite being a public figure, he was not superior to anyone”, Manuel Santos said with tears in his eyes.
