One hundred and nine municipalities in mainland Portugal have a very high and extreme risk of being infected by the new coronavirus, six less than at the beginning of the month.
The new list that divides the municipalities between moderate, high, very high and extreme contagion levels was published by the Government last week, but will only come into force from 00:00 on Thursday, when the new state. emergency, which lasts until 11:59 pm on January 7.
In other words, the restrictions applied by the covid-19 pandemic in each of the counties, even if they have gone up or down, only begin to apply on Thursday.
According to the new list of risk levels, there are now 30 municipalities at extreme risk of contagion, five less than on December 2 and 79 at very high risk, one more than at the beginning of the month.
The number of municipalities considered high risk remains unchanged, 92, while the moderate risk municipalities are now 77, four more than at the beginning of the month.
The Lisbon Metropolitan Area, which comprises 18 municipalities, has five very high-level municipalities: Almada, Barreiro, Lisbon, Moita and Montijo.
At the beginning of the month, Almada, Barreiro and Lisbon were already at this level, but Moita and Montijo went from high to very high risk.
At the top tier are 13 counties, with Loures descending from the very top tier. They are Alcochete, Amadora, Cascais, Loures, Mafra, Odivelas, Oeiras, Palmela, Seixal, Sesimbra, Setúbal, Sintra and Vila Franca de Xira.
In the Porto Metropolitan Area, for the first time since the beginning of the division by risk levels, a municipality left the highest risk levels: Vale de Cambra, which was considered a very high risk of contagion, went to the risk level high. .
Four municipalities are at the extreme risk level, half of which were as of December 2. Oliveira de Azeméis went from very high risk to extreme and Póvoa de Varzim, Trofa and Vila do Conde remain at the same level.
The remaining 12 municipalities in the Porto Metropolitan Area are at a very high risk level: Arouca, Espinho, Gondomar, Maia, Matosinhos, Paredes, Porto, Santa Maria da Feira, Santo Tirso, São João da Madeira, Valongo and Vila Nova of Gaia.
Espinho, Paredes, Santa Maria de Feira, Santo Tirso and São João da Madeira were the counties that went from extreme to very high risk in the last two weeks.
In November, the executive divided the 278 municipalities of the continent into four groups, according to the level of risk of transmission: moderate, high (between 240 and 480 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), very high (between 480 and 960) and extremely high (over 960). The covid-19 pandemic caused at least 1,718,209 deaths derived from more than 77.9 million cases of contagion worldwide, according to a report prepared by the French agency AFP.
In Portugal, 6,343 people died from 383,258 confirmed cases of infection, according to the most recent bulletin from the Directorate General of Health.
The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
