The BE questioned the Government about the existence of a protocol with the Hospital da Misericórdia de Póvoa de Lanhoso, after that unit refused to know a suspect of covid-19 sent by the Saúde 24 line, it was announced today. The Mercy Ombudsman’s Office, in statements to O MINHO, clarifies that the institution does not have a protocol with the SNS to carry out screening tests and considers that the party’s complaint “makes no sense.”

In a question sent to the Ministry of Health, to which Lusa had access today, those elected by the Bloco de Esquerda for the district of Braga question whether, if there is a protocol between the National Health Service (SNS) and that hospital, the refusal to attend. that patient “sets a default value or not.”

In case there is no agreement, the BE wants explanations about the routing of the SNS24 hotline to that hospital.

According to BE, a presumed case of covid-19 went to the António Lopes Hospital, in the Misericórdia de Póvoa de Lanhoso, “in the accusation of the SNS24 Line, at 4:30 am” to detect the infection, and “the citizen will have been received by the guard on duty at the hospital ”.

Given the refusal to let him in, the citizen “questioned the reason why he could not enter the hospital to be treated by the doctor on duty.”

“The answer was that, at the moment, there was only one doctor in the unit and there was no nurse present to do the screening. Then, and against the instructions of the SNS24 Line, they were sent to the Braga Hospital ”, describes the BE.

According to that part, “it is interesting to understand why the SNS24 Line decided to refer a suspected case of covid-19, at dawn, to the António Lopes hospital, of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia, and the reason why this hospital refused to provide care and evidence to the suspected case, having referred it to the Braga Hospital, this, an NHS hospital and public management.

“The Póvoa de Lanhoso Hospital could never be tested”

The provider of Santa Casa da Misericórdia was unaware, when questioned by O MINHO, of the situation described by BE, but considers that, if it happened, there would be no breach by the hospital. “If Saúde 24 made the referral to the Póvoa de Lanhoso Hospital, he did it wrong, he cannot do it, because we do not have a protocol with ARS-Norte to perform covid detection tests,” he explains.

“We don’t have any protocol, so we don’t violate it,” Humberto Carneiro emphasizes, adding: “If, in fact, the person went to the António Lopes Hospital, the security guard will naturally have told him, and very well, that we have a doctor. . 24 hours, but to test the covid I had to go to an NHS hospital, which, honestly, I very much doubt that, at that time of the night, exclusively for a covid test, I would do it ”.

Humberto Carneiro highlights, therefore, that the complaint of the blocking deputies “does not make any sense” and recalls that the COVID test marks by the SNS are through P1 codes and that the procedure can only be carried out by those who have a protocol with the SNS. “The Hospital of Póvoa de Lanhoso was never able to carry out the screening as indicated by Saúde 24,” he emphasizes, clarifying that the unit has a Unilabs collection station, which does have conventions with the SNS, but only works during the day.

The provider also points out that the Hospital da Póvoa de Lanhoso has a 24-hour doctor, but at that time in the morning, he was in private consultation, because the protocols of the institution with the SNS, for open consultation, are between 8:00 p.m. 00 and 24:00 from Monday to Friday and from 08:00 to 24:00 on weekends and holidays.

“Even so, SNS 24 could not refer anyone to the Póvoa de Lanhoso Hospital, because at that time there was no possible protocol, we have no protocol beyond midnight,” he concludes.
