The national stock market opened in decline this Monday, December 21, with the PSI-20 devaluing 2.11% to 4,662.57 points, and 16 of the 17 trading with a red light.

The Portuguese market thus continues the pessimism that marks the beginning of the session in Europe, with investors reflecting fears about the new strain of the virus discovered in the United Kingdom and that it is leading Europe to close its doors to that country to stop the spread.

Several European countries announced yesterday the ban on air, sea and rail links with the United Kingdom, before the leaders of the European Union meet this Monday morning to discuss a joint plan to stop the spread.

The situation, which forced the United Kingdom to decree a new lockdown in London and the south of England and to reverse the relaxation of restrictive measures, overlapped the Brexit negotiations, which again failed to meet the deadline agreed on Sunday.

In this context, investors today are avoiding the riskiest assets and seeking refuge in securities such as the dollar.

Here, BCP and Galp Energia are among the listed companies that penalize the most. The bank led by Miguel Maya falls 3.66% to 11.86 cents while Galp sinks 5.05% to 8,340 euros, after announcing that it will discontinue refinery operations in Matosinhos.

Still in energy, EDP fell 1.31% to 4,825 euros and EDP Renováveis fell 0.74% to 20 euros.

Among the largest decreases, the most important are those listed in the pulp and paper sector, with Semapa falling 3% to 9.05 euros, Altri losing 2.9% to 5.03 euros and Navigator devaluing 1, 68% to 2,464 euros.

The only one listed with a positive sign is Corticeira Amorim, which rises 1.90% to 10.70 euros.
