Several countries have already taken steps to contain contacts with UK citizens, following the discovery of a new strain of coronavirus on British soil.

After the French announcement, which chose to suspend all ties with British territory, most of Central Europe is behind closed doors to Great Britain.

Belgium had already made it known that all flights and trains connecting the country with the United Kingdom would be suspended, including Eurostar, which crosses the English Channel and links Brussels and London. Scotland, a country that is also part of that union, also applied a travel ban to England.

The Dutch government has also ordered the suspension of flights from that country, and in the Netherlands there have already been cases of contagion by the new strain that is causing these restrictions.

Italy acted in a similar way, suspending air links with that European island territory, such as Germany. Reuters quotes the Austrian news agency as saying the country should take similar action.

Spain asked the European Commission to take measures to standardize the European response to this outbreak on Her Majesty’s land, in order to avoid unilateral responses. Even so, our neighbors do not exclude this route, if the European bloc does not act soon.

Outside the European Union, Israel has applied restrictions on travel between the country and Great Britain, as well as with Denmark and South Africa, countries where this strain has also been identified. Portugal, at the moment, has not yet acted in relation to this situation.

It is recalled that 62% of the new cases detected this week in London were compatible with the new strain, which seems to be more contagious than that of Europe. The United Kingdom has already exceeded two million confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection, and in the last week the average daily deaths was 400.
