Building collapses after explosion in downtown Lisbon. There are five injured

A building collapsed this Sunday morning on Rua de Santa Marta, in the heart of Lisbon. On the site there are several outlets of the Lisbonese and Sapadores Volunteer Firefighters.

The collapse followed a loud explosion. There are at least five injured, one of them in serious condition from burns. The victims were transferred to the São José Hospital.

The building has a total of nine residents, two of whom were not on the scene at the time of the incident. Civil Protection is now trying to find out where the other two residents are. The four-story building is in danger of completely collapsing, so authorities cannot search for any survivors. Pisteiro dogs are in action, looking for possible victims of the collapse.

Lisbon city councilor Carlos Manuel Castro admits that the explosion may have occurred as a result of a gas leak. The facade of the building was completely destroyed, leaving the building without habitability conditions.

This is building number 41/42, and some of the damaged cars that were on public roads were damaged.
