The decision “is obviously absurd, unfair, irresponsible and dangerous.” This was the reaction of Ana Hidalgo, mayor of Paris, when she received a fine of 90 thousand euros on Tuesday, justified by the institution that employs too many women in relevant positions.

The fine imposed on the Paris chamber was an initiative of the Ministry of Public Function, on the pretext that the municipality had violated national regulations in force in France by choosing to appoint 11 women and only five men to managerial positions in the city . city hall in 2018.

It means that the rate of women in managerial positions in the Paris Chamber has been 69% for two years, in contrast to a 2013 norm that indicates that in this type of positions there should be no more than 60% of nominations for a single gender. , a rule that Anne Hidalgo considers “absurd”.

At the same time, Anne Hidalgo says she is happy to receive the fine Tuesday, stating, at a city council meeting, “I am pleased to announce that we have been fined for appointing too many women to management positions.”

The mayor of Paris also guaranteed that he will personally bring the check for the fine decreed by the Ministry of Public Administration to the French Government, along with all the women who work with her.
