The university professor and former PSD deputy Jorge Bacelar Gouveia became a defendant in a process that investigates corruption crimes, advances the SIC Notícias.

It is suspected that the professor of the Faculty of Law of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa has facilitated the granting of doctorates to students from some African countries speaking the official Portuguese language (PALOP) in exchange for compensation.

Universidade Nova de Lisboa, contacted by SIC, confirms that raids were carried out at the faculty and anticipates that the University has already become an assistant in the criminal process and is available to collaborate with the authorities.

For alleged corruption, the constitutionalist Jorge Bacelar Gouveia was excluded from the Supreme Court of Justice.

The investigation around Bacelar Gouveia was born from the so-called ‘Operation Tutti Frutti’, which intervened between the constitutionalist and the former PSD deputy Sérgio Azevedo, his student, who was preparing a doctorate.

At the beginning of December, Bacelar Gouveia resigned as president of the Scientific Council of the Faculty, but continues to lead the Supervisory Council of the Illustrious Bar Association.
