A publication shared in July by Movimento Zero (M0) appears, an inorganic group created on Facebook by PSP agents and GNR soldiers, with public positions close to the most populist right and even the extreme right, and with more than 76 thousand followers. sponsored by GNR. At the top of the M0 post you can read: “Funded by GNR – Republican National Guard. GNR – Republican National Guard gave Movimento Zero a reward for sharing this post. Branded content allows creators to partner with brands to promote your products and services “.

The publication in question criticizes an opinion article by lawyer Carmo Afonso, in the online edition of July 27, which puts at home the use and possession of weapons in certain situations by elements of the security forces, but which is he mainly devoted himself to cases of racism or violence in the police forces. In this Facebook post, Movimento Zero says it repudiates “the manifest displeasure of the security forces, exposed in the opinion article.” And that has been confirming that “criticizing, embezzling, disrespecting or neglecting the Police are not just acts of alleged criminals. They are, in fact, also acts commonly committed by certain literate personalities!” And they add: “The police have no doubt that the true intention of the article is to exploit the security forces!” and “abolish the security forces.”

Expresso asked GNR’s public relations office if they had in fact sponsored the post, but the response was that the Guard’s Facebook page was identified in the M0 post in the absence of that institution. “We were surprised by this fact and we have already promoted the withdrawal of sponsorship,” says the institution’s spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel José Fonseca. This official says he does not know how something like this could have happened, adding that the GNR will investigate the circumstances of this event. “We do not rule out a piracy scenario. There was abuse on our Facebook page.” Especially since, adds this same source, GNR is not associated with this type of point of view expressed by M0. “There is no sponsorship at all. We admit all scenarios. If applicable, we will act criminally.”

Facebook’s policy on page sponsorship is clear: “A paid partnership post (also known as branded content) uses a ‘with’ tag to present users with the business partner’s page name. The paid tag it applies to publication in the metadata (in gray, next to the date and time). If the publication was promoted or it is an unpublished ad, the Sponsored tag will be displayed, as in any other Facebook ad. ” And more: “Posts with branded content are presented as your page with a brand page and the Paid Partnership tag is grayed out in the post. “
