Cabrita and Costa send letters to the widow of Ihor Homeniuk

The Minister of Internal Administration, Eduardo Cabrita, received today the Ukrainian ambassador to Portugal, Inna “Ohnivets, to deliver a note of the decisions taken by the Government regarding the death of citizen Ihor Homeniuk, in March, at the facilities of the Service Exterior and Borders at the Lisbon airport ”, says a note from the Interior Ministry sent to the newsrooms.

The meeting takes place “following the request for condolence transmitted in early April to the family of Ihor Homeniuk, through the Ukrainian embassy in Lisbon, Eduardo Cabrita today delivered a letter to the widow, Mrs. Oksana Homeniuk, informing her of the Government’s decision to assume, on behalf of the Portuguese State, responsibility for the payment of compensation, ”the same note explains. The intention had already been made public this Thursday after the meeting of the Council of Ministers.

The amount of compensation to the family will be determined by the Ombudsman. Ihor Homeniuk died nine months ago and has two young children.

This same information was also sent that day by the prime minister’s office, to the widow’s lawyer, in response to a letter sent by the latter to António Costa, it was revealed today.

Eduardo Cabrita, through this statement, added that he explained what are “the ongoing efforts to investigate the events that occurred at the Lisbon airport, as well as the respective criminal and disciplinary responsibilities.” Three inspectors are under house arrest, charged with murder. An inspection by the IGAI (General Inspectorate of Internal Administration) determined the opening of disciplinary proceedings against 12 SEF inspectors.
