Infraestructuras de Portugal, owner of the old Boavista train station in Porto, will file a complaint with the authorities against unknown persons to investigate the causes of the fire in the building for which there is a request for classification.

In Lusa, the communication office of Infrastructure of Portugal (IP) indicated that the company is going to present to the competent investigating authorities a news report, against unknown persons, to know the causes of the fire that broke out this morning around 3:30 am and that, according to Sapadores do Porto, it consumed part of the interior and roof of the building.

The same source also said that IP is still assessing the extent of the damage caused by the flames at the moment.

After the fire this morning, the Movement for a Garden in Boavista urged the authorities to investigate the causes and those responsible for the “criminal” fire, wondering why the fire happened “practically after” the publication of a report. He says the station’s application for qualification as a property of municipal interest was still pending, “and at a time when the building is under enormous pressure to be demolished to make way for commercial space.”

“Taking into account the climatic conditions that affect Porto today, the Movement can only suspect that the fire was the result of arson,” the group of citizens said in a statement.

On Thursday, in a note sent to the editorial offices, the movement continued to be concerned about the “contradictory” approval of the Prior Information Request (PIP) related to the project of the Spanish chain, without yet having responded to the request to reverse the business. that the municipality itself sent it to the responsible ministry.

For the land of the old Boavista train station, in addition to a large commercial warehouse, the installation of a hotel and a commercial and service housing building is planned, the PIP of which was approved by the municipality in October.

So far, the Spanish chain has paid IP, which owns the land, 18.7 million euros.

The project of the Spanish chain of the old railway station has been contested, having led, in June, a group of about 60 personalities linked to the railway academy and the heritage to request the municipal classification of the old Boavista train station , after the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage has submitted the national application.

Speaking to Lusa this morning, the commander of the Sapadores do Porto, Carlos Marques, indicated that, although the fight against the flames was “relatively easy”, it was necessary to use means of elevation, namely the highway, but the integrity of the However, the building was not compromised.

The Civil Protection picket and the PSP were also present at the site, which was initially in charge of investigating the causes of the fire, and the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) was summoned to collect items.

According to the PSP, from the beginning there are no suspicions of crime.
