This Friday, Portugal registered 5,080 new cases and 95 deaths from covid-19, the worst day in history. In total, more than 340,000 people have already been infected with the new coronavirus and 5,373 have died.

The black record leaves marks in all regions of Portugal, from the islands to the mainland. The North, the area most affected by the pandemic, registered 41 deaths, for a total of 2,578, almost half of the total deaths nationwide.
In the center there are 16 more lives taken by the pandemic (713 since March), while in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (LVT) region 32 deaths were registered, in a cluster of mourning that has already affected the families of 1,863 people .
South of the Tagus, the Algarve added two more victims (58 in total), as many as the Alentejo, which has already registered 138 deaths since the start of the pandemic. On the day death returned to the island territories, the Azores noted another fatality, for a total of 20, two days after the last fatal record. In Madeira, one more death was recorded, after more than a month without fatalities in the Madeira archipelago.
In hospitals, the scene has relaxed somewhat, with the number of hospitalized patients falling to 3,230 (down from 74), while severe cases are now 507, two less than Thursday.
In the past 24 hours, an additional 4,100 people have recovered from the disease, to a summary of 2,63648. There are 885 more active cases, an increase to 71,266, compared to 70,381 that were counted Thursday.
The highest number of cases since last Saturday
The Northern Region (RN) now totals 178,378 total cases of covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, with 2,578 registered in the last 24 hours. The 713 cases reported in the last 24 hours are the highest since last Saturday, when it exceeded 866 infections. The cumulative figure has reached 35,358 since the start of the pandemic. From Friday to Friday, there are 161 new cases in the RC.
It will no longer be surprising at this point in the text to point out that the 1,618 cases reported by the RLVT are the highest since Saturday, December 5, when the capital and the surrounding region reported 1908 infections.
