Companies in the sectors most affected by the effects of the pandemic will have non-reimbursable support to pay rents in the first half of next year.

Companies with a loss of turnover between 25% and 40% may receive support corresponding to 30% of the rent, up to a limit of 1,200 euros per month. Companies with breaks greater than 40% may receive aid corresponding to 50% of the rent, up to a limit of 2,000 thousand euros per month. The measure was announced this Thursday by the Minister of Economy, Pedro Siza Vieira.

Payment will be made in two installments, one in the first quarter of 2021 and the other in the second quarter. The applications for this support will be launched in January, through a mechanism similar to Apoiar.pt.

Also in the rental chapter, Pedro Siza Vieira detailed some aspects of the bill approved this Thursday in the Council of Ministers, and which intends to extend, until June 30 of next year, the effects of the suspension of lease contracts. The proposal will be debated next Friday in parliament and will be voted on on December 22.

The same proposal provides that establishments closed since March, such as nightclubs, can begin to pay rents related to 2020 and 2021 as of January 2022, for a period of 24 months.

For these companies, it will also be proposed to extend the duration of the contracts, “for a period equal to the duration of the closure”, with a minimum duration of six months from the reopening.
