Five arrested for scams with MBWAY of more than 110 thousand euros

GNR arrested five people in Borba, Vila Viçosa and Terrugem, in Alentejo, between 22 and 34 years old, for computer scams.

According to the GNR Évora Territorial Command, the arrests of four men and one woman took place in the context of the operation “Dollars”, a “criminal case with a year of investigation into computer and communications fraud and illegitimate access to computer fraud”, related to MBWAY ”, which take place in the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP) of Évora and the Vila Viçosa Court.

The operation, according to GNR, took place on Wednesday in Borba and Vila Viçosa, in the Évora district, and in the town of Terrugem, in the Portalegre district, which involved a staff of 114 military personnel, with six combinations and which had with the support of the Portalegre Territorial Command and Intervention Unit.

This operation led to the execution of 14 home search warrants, 15 non-home search warrants and four arrest warrants outside the act.

As a result of this operation, GNR indicated that detained five people, four in execution of arrest warrants for flagrante delicto and one in flagrante delicto for the crime of possession of a prohibited weapon.

A GNR seized more than 100 mobile phone cards, 35 mobile phones, several pieces of gold, more than three thousand euros in cash, five ‘tablets’, two hunting rifles, diverse documentation related to the practice of crimes under investigation, bank and mobile phone operator documentation, two pistols 7, 65 and three vehicles.

“The scams have caused victims more than 110,000 euros in damages,” said the GNR.
