Accident with five vehicles and four injured by ice on the A24

Highway 24 (A24) was conditioned, this Wednesday, near Vila Real, due to two accidents, which caused four injuries, according to GNR.

The two accidents, which involved five vehicles, occurred near kilometer 71, allegedly due to the formation of ice on the road.

Source GNR told the Lusa agency that the two accidents occurred in both directions of the road (Vila Real-Régua and Régua-Vila Real).

GNR reported that the first accident occurred at 7:00 am on the bridge over a river and where the ice formation occurred.

The road was cut in both directions, having reopened in the direction of Régua-Vila Real at 9:30 am, while, on the other side, the road is still being cleaned and salt is being spread on the site.

A source from the Cruz Verde firefighters said that the four slightly injured, who resulted from the crash in the direction of Vila Real-Régua, were transferred to the Vila Real unit of the Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro Hospital Center.

About 20 officers were mobilized to the crash site, including firefighters, GNR soldiers and members of concessionaire A24.

Six ambulances of the Cruz Verde, Vila Pouca de Aguiar and Vidago and Salvação Pública de Chaves corporations were activated.
