Pilots fear TAP’s extinction

TAP difficulties are not the result of your own situation. They are the result of the drastic change in the market derived from the pandemic (of covid-19), like all other companies in the sector”, Reads a memorandum from SPAC, sent to parliamentary groups.

In June, the European Commission approved emergency assistance to TAP, in accordance with the rescue and restructuring (R&R) guidelines, according to the company’s classification as a company in difficulty.

These guidelines, as explained by the union structure, only allow the State to grant aid if companies take measures to resolve “the causes of their needs.”

TAP’s restructuring plan must be presented to the European Commission before December 10, with the European Commission being a requirement to grant a state loan of up to 1,200 million euros, to face the difficulties of the company, derived from the impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic in the aviation sector.

The pilots discuss actions

This Monday, the pilots union holds an extraordinary meeting, remotely, at the request of the affiliates, to report on the actions to be taken within the framework of the TAP Restructuring Plan.

The call sent by the president of the SPAC assembly board indicates that “the company meeting of the TAP Portugal pilots” will take place on December 7, “exclusively through telematic means”, given the current situation caused by Covid – 19.

The “extraordinary session”, “at the request of the members”, has only one point: “Request for information and clarifications to the SPAC management on the current developments derived from the TAP restructuring plan, the actions in progress, the strategy developed and the actions planned to be carried out by the SPAC management.“.
