Continental Portugal will be affected from today afternoon until Tuesday by the agitation of the sea, strong winds, rainfall, snow and a drop in temperature associated with the passage of the Ernest depression, reported the IPMA.

In a statement, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) affirmed that the effects of the Ernesto depression in continental Portugal will be felt by the increase in the intensity of the wind as of today afternoon, which will last until Tuesday. .

Gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour are forecast on the north coast of Cabo Mondego and up to 100 kilometers per hour in the mountains.

Due to the wind, the IPMA placed the districts of Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, Castelo Branco, Coimbra and Braga under yellow warning until 6:00 am on Tuesday.

The Ernesto Depression will also bring to the continent an increase in the agitation of the sea, on the west coast, with waves from the northwest and a significant height of 4 to 5 meters north of Cabo Raso.

Due to this situation, the IPMA placed the districts of Viana do Castelo, Porto, Aveiro, Lisbon, Leiria, Coimbra and Braga under yellow warning until 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to the IPMA, the occurrence of periods of rain or showers, more frequent in the North and Center, which will be in the form of snow at levels above 1,400 / 1,600 meters and gradually decreasing to 1,000 / 1,200 meters are also expected. .

Due to the snowfall, the IPMA issued a yellow warning to the districts of Bragana, Guarda, Vila Real, Braga and Castelo Branco at 12:00 noon on Tuesday.

The yellow warning issued by the IPMA whenever there is a risk for certain activities depending on the weather situation.

IPMA adds that due to the transport of a cold air mass in the joint circulation of the aforementioned depression with an anticyclone located in the south of the Azores, a drop in temperature is also expected until Wednesday.
