Manuel Nobre, former mayor of Rio Maior, dies – Observer

The former mayor of Río Maior, Manuel Sequeira Nobre, died on Friday, at the age of 93, and the municipality decreed three days of municipal mourning, the current president, Filipe Dias, told Lusa today.

Mayor of Rio Maior, in the Santarém district, between 1980 and 1983, Manuel Nobre was the founder, together with his parents and brothers, of the Noble Meat Industry.

He carried out various political functions (he was a councilor between 1968 and 1971 and in 1983 and 1984 and municipal deputy between 1986 and 1989) and had active civic participation in his municipality, having been one of the founders of O Ninho – Center for Special Education of the Municipality of River. Mayor and supplier of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Rio Maior.

Manuel Nobre, who was also linked to several companies, was born in Rio Maior on November 20, 1927.

In 1990, the municipality paid tribute to him in the celebrations of the city day (November 6) and, in 1991, the then President of the Republic Mário Soares decorated him with the rank of Officer of the Order of Merit, during the Commemorations Officials of the Day of Portugal.
