“What we think and appeal is the common sense of the Portuguese (…) who realize that this Christmas must be different and, therefore, the common sense of the Portuguese will undoubtedly lead to good results,” stressed the Undersecretary of State. and Health, which today traveled to the north of the country, in the framework of monitoring the epidemiological situation and the response to the pandemic in the region.

The North region is the one with the highest number of infections by SARS-CoV-2, which causes the covid-19 disease, totaling 164,463 cases and 2,300 deaths since the start of the pandemic in March.

Portugal is in a state of emergency from November 9 to December 8, a period during which there is a mandatory curfew in the counties with the highest risk of contagion.

During the week, the curfew must be respected between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., while on weekends and holidays, circulation is limited between 1 p.m. on Saturday and 5 a.m. on Sunday, and between 1 p.m. on Sunday. and 5 am on Monday.

The country has at least 4,803 deaths associated with covid-19 in 312,553 confirmed cases of infection, according to the latest bulletin from the General Directorate of Health (DGS).
