On the day that marks the 40th anniversary of the disappearance of Francisco Sá Carneiro, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa paid tribute to the former prime minister and leader of the PSD, in the presentation of the book “40 years, 40 testimonies about Sá Carneiro.”

Marcelo highlighted, as a negative point, something that the President of the Republic said that “does not abandon him as a citizen”: “That our democracy has never been able at the jurisdictional level to have enough evidence to prove whether Camarate was an accident or a crime” . .

“For it to have followed successive parliamentary commissions of inquiry, it is very frustrating to have to admit that time is over for not facilitating a judicial decision with a more solid evidence base,” he lamented.

The President of the Republic preferred to speak of Francisco Sá Carneiro as the friend with whom he established a relationship at the beginning of the sixties and to whom he owes “unforgettable days and nights.”

“In PPD / PSD I was able to witness the work of this historical reference, of one of the civil fathers of our democracy who faced a true internal adventure,” Marcelo recalled.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa recalled “the author of a party considered impossible, unviable, without political space, if the international supports it, with no possible place between the revolution and the counterrevolution. The mission became possible and Sá Carneiro built a galvanizing party out of almost nothing ”.
