The German police confirmed, through social networks, the arrest of the driver of the vehicle that this Tuesday ran over a group of passers-by in a pedestrian area of Trier, Germany. The accident caused four deaths, including a baby, and at least 30 injuries, some in serious condition. So far, there is no confirmation that it is an attack. .
The driver of the vehicle, a 51-year-old man, is being listened to by the police and there is still no information on what caused the impact in an area of western Germany, known to be traditionally sought after by tourists.
A video was posted on social media showing the vehicle, a gray Range Rover, with the region’s registration, on top of the trip and its driver stopped by local police. German authorities have deployed a security cordon and emergency teams at the scene and are asking to avoid the city center.
The police do not give great details, they only point out that the vehicle was launched at high speed through a pedestrian and commercial area. Witnesses cited by the local press report that for several hundred meters, the vehicle struck pedestrians, some of which were designed, and destroyed nearby stores. The driver then directed the vehicle to an adjacent street, outside the pedestrian zone, where it was intercepted by several police vehicles and detained.
