Björn Kuipers, from the Netherlands, has already whistled the dragons and was a judge of the Europa League final between Benfica and Chelsea
UEFA has appointed a group from the Netherlands to referee FC Porto-Manchester City, from the fifth day of the Champions League group, scheduled for this Tuesday.
Leading the team is Dutchman Björn Kuipers, who will be assisted by Sander van Roekel, Erwin Zeinstra and Lawrence Visser (fourth official). Pol van Boekel will be the VAR and Rob Dieperink will be the AVAR.
He has already crossed paths with the dragons in the semi-finals of the Europa League, in 2011, in FC Porto’s 5-1 in Villarreal and in the 2014 3-ball tie at Eintracht Frankfurt. At the beginning of the following season, he whistled Lille-FC Porto (0-1), from the first leg of the Champions League pre-qualification.
Kuipers was also the referee for the final of the European Super Cup between Dragons and Barcelona, played in France on August 26, 2011, which the Whites and Blues lost 2-0.
He also led the Europa League final between Benfica and Chelsea on May 15, 2013, a match that ended with the English victory 2-1.
