The former president of the PSD and political commentator Luís Marques Mendes believes that the Government will resort to the Administrative Courts to try to lift the brake on transfers to Novo Banco approved by Parliament. After several twists and turns, the brake on new transfers to Novo Banco was finally approved, with votes in favor of PSD, Bloco de Esquerda, PCP, PEV, Chega and the unregistered deputy Joacine Katar Moreira.
Regarding the possibility of the Government asking the Constitutional Court to analyze the budget proposal, he said: “I don’t think the Budget will go to the Constitutional Court. This issue is not resolved in the Constitutional Court because it is not a constitutional issue. I do not think that anyone is going to raise the issue of constitutionality verification successively ”.
Luís Marques Mendes also said that it seems to be “a new national sport to shoot Novo Banco” and that, in this controversial approval of the blocking proposal, “almost everyone is wrong outside of photography”. “The parties, in general, believe that they win votes by attacking Novo Banco. Sometimes they attack with reason, others with a lot of demagoguery, ”he said.
The former Social Democratic leader considers that the proposal reveals “contradiction and hypocrisy” on the part of the Left Bloc, which “has approved several Budgets in the past, which means that it has approved almost three billion euros of loan to the Resolution Fund to enter at Novo Banco ”. Luís Marques Mendes also stressed that the Government was right in saying that the parties are “playing with fire”, but says that it “does not have much authority to criticize” because, in May, he said that first there would have to be an audit. “It was he who set this precedent and it is said that those who sow winds reap storms,” he said.
