Concert for Plants 2027

In addition to the interventions of the guests, Braga’s candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2027 presented the artistic installation “Concert for 2027 floors”, by the sound artist Cláudia Martinho.

In the artistic installation the plants are connected to sensors that capture the electromagnetic impulses of the plants, converting them into sound and thus creating a polyphony of plant voices, as if it were a choir.

“These plants, largely strawberry trees, one of the native species of this region, seek to symbolize and evoke the vital energy of this territory and its citizens who, in the current pandemic context, could not be present in the Altice Forum warehouse Braga ”, explains the autarky, in a statement.

The strawberry trees were donated to the candidature of Braga by the Terra de Esperança Project of ANEFA – National Association of Forestry, Agricultural and Environmental Companies in alliance with the GALP Foundation. As a result of this collaboration and as a legacy of this moment, the Candidacy will plant these fruit trees in the municipality of Braga, with the collaboration of the Parish Councils.

The average time for this species to produce the characteristic red berry is 6 years: “It means that hopefully in 2027 we will be harvesting the first fruits of some of the plants that are seen in the images of this symbolic moment,” says the same note.

Cláudia Martinho is an architect, sound artist and researcher at the University of Minho. It develops sound installations, performances and workshops, which promote active listening and the development of the human being in contact with nature.

She is the co-founder of Rural Vivo, a cultural association dedicated to artistic, educational and ecological activities in the Serra do Gerês, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
