Ljubomir Stanisic, chef of “100 Maneiras” and one of the representatives of the “Survive bread and water” movement, announced this Friday, November 27, that he will begin a hunger strike in the form of a “protest against the destruction of the restaurant sector” , explains in statements to “Boa Cama Boa Mesa”, the lifestyle supplement of the newspaper “Expresso”.
“I am getting comfortable, putting some beds here and preparing to start a hunger strike in front of the Assembly of the Republic,” he began by saying. The decision comes after the hearing with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, from which Ljubomir assures that he left “without solutions” to help the restaurant sector, which continues to be one of the most affected by the restrictive measures to combat the pandemic.
“They took note of our complaints and only said that the President of the Republic does not order or take action. It seems that the President of the Republic is being the Deputy Prime Minister ”.
During the hearing, Ljubomir Stanisic tried to ask for changes to the measures that hinder the normal operation of restaurants during weekends and also took 36 restaurant keys that were closed, in a clear reference to the difficulties that the sector is going through.
In this sense, it considers that the objective of the hunger strike is “to defend the restoration, the colleagues who will not be able to pay their rent or wages, and also for the families of thousands who are in danger of reaching the end of the year without work”, explains the same publication.
The hunger strike, Stanisic continues, “is for 43% of us, catering and related companies, that we are thinking of moving towards insolvency; for 19% of us, tourist accommodation companies, that we are thinking of closing their doors; along the way, for the more than 49 thousand jobs lost in the restaurant and hotel sector during the third quarter of 2020 and for all those who will lose their jobs, their livelihoods, their food on the table if aid does not arrive already “.
