PS, Liberal Initiative, the unregistered deputy Cristina Rodrigues voted against the proposal, while CDS-PP, PAN and Chega chose to abstain.

The approval of this BE proposal was the surprise of this Wednesday’s 2021 State Budget survey marathon, which has already been confirmed.

The Minister of State and Finance, João Leão said he was “very worried” with the cancellation of the transfer of 476 million euros from the Resolution Fund to Novo Banco.

“I am very concerned,” the finance minister told reporters.

The Secretary of State for Finance, João Nuno Mendes, has already warned that The cancellation of the transfer of 476 million euros to Novo Banco causes “a situation of total legal uncertainty” with risks to the solvency of the entity.

“It is a situation of total legal insecurity in which we have Parliament replacing itself with what are the supervisory regulatory entities,” said the official during the debate, specifically, on the proposal for State Budgets for 2021.

On Wednesday, the Socialist Party considered that the PSD behaved “irresponsibly and cowardly” by uniting its votes with those of the Left Bloc to stop, in Parliament, the transfer of money to the New Bank. For the socialists, this was “an extremely radical position that is an atomic bomb on the confidence of the financial system”.

The vice president of the Socialist caucus, João Paulo Correia, accused the Social Democrats of being accomplices in breaking a contract signed between the Portuguese state and the US fund Lone Star, which Novo Banco bought.

“This proposal of the Left Bloc that was approved with the votes of the PSD represents the breach of a commitment assumed by the Portuguese State, the breach of a contract, and it turns out to be an atomic bomb on the confidence of the financial system, “Correia said at the end of the parliamentary vote.

“We know that this was done with total irresponsibility and cowardice on the part of the PSD, which at the end of the morning’s debate did not reach a debate on the Novo Banco, did not want to take its position (…), and now in the darkness of the night, their votes to the votes of the Left Bloc ”.

João Paulo Correia also considered that PSD has “an excessive thirst for power”. “He wants to come to power quickly. It breaks principles that are fundamental for the functioning of our economy and also for the credibility of the Portuguese State ”, he criticized.

“And we also consider that this position of the PSD, this irresponsibility of the PSD to unite its votes with the votes of the Left Bloc to prevent the Portuguese State from fulfilling a contract, will cause a reputational damage to the Republic, with repercussions on the interest of the public debt. ”.
