Tuesday’s epidemiological bulletin is released 85 more deaths from Covid-19 in Portugal, making it the second deadliest day since the pandemic began in the country. This daily increase takes Portugal beyond the 4,000 death mark, now adding a total of 4,056 deaths from Covid-19.

Despite the high number of deaths (11 more than the previous day), the number of new cases is decreasing. After the 4,044 registered on Monday, this Tuesday they were diagnosed 3,919 more positive cases of Covid-19. In total, the number of cases since the start of the pandemic is now 268,721.

In hospitals the number of hospitalizations continues to grow at an unprecedented rate since the beginning of this pandemic. The number of hospitalizations amounted to 3,275 (34 more than the previous day) and in intensive care is already 506, after a rise of eight compared to the previous day.

At the same time, the number of people recovered is also the highest since the start of the pandemic. This Tuesday, 7,406 were recovered, a figure that exceeds the 7,290 of November 17. In addition to this indicator, there is also the greatest reduction in active cases since the beginning of the pandemic: there are 3,572 fewer this Tuesday, which represents a negative variation of 4.2%.

However, these last two indicators must be analyzed with cautious optimism, since they are specific indicators that are part of a growing trend in the number of cases.

The negative indicator is the increase in the fatality rate of Covid-19 for two days in a row. The rate increased from 1.50% to 1.51% in the last 24 hours, while in the previous ones it had gone from 1.49% to 1.50%. This is the first time that the fatality rate has increased for two consecutive days since it peaked on June 2, set at 4.37%.

Maintaining the trend of recent times, the majority of deaths and cases are found in the region North. In this area of the country, there were 50 of the 85 deaths of the last day and 1,907 of the 3,919 new cases were detected, that is, 48.7% of the total.

Then there is the region of Lisbon and Tagus Valley, which records 1,018 cases and 20 deaths. The region of Center, with 446 new cases and 12 more deaths. No Alentejo, are 101 cases and 3 deaths.

There are three regions without deaths: Algarve, Azores me Madeira. Even so, they present new cases: 43, 15 and 2, respectively.
