The US authorities found a mysterious metal monolith in the middle of the desert, in Utah, in the United States of America.
What started as a simple helicopter ride to count animals ended up turning into a scene straight out of the movie “2001: Space Odyssey”, when a black monolith appears in one of the scenes.
The discovery came last Wednesday, when officials from the Utah Department of Public Safety flew by helicopter to help the Division of Wildlife Resources count the wild bighorn sheep. Suddenly, one of the biologists found the metal artifact.
The object, found in the middle of the characteristic red rocks of that area of Utah, is about 10 feet tall and appears to have been planted there, according to helicopter pilot Bret Hutchings, cited by CNN.
“I think it is the work of an artist from new wave or maybe someone who was a huge fan (of the movie 2001: Space Odyssey), ”he said.
In a statement released Monday, the Utah Department of Public Safety clarified that it is prohibited to install unauthorized structures or art objects in public spaces, “regardless of the planet from which they come.”
The authorities still do not know who placed the monolith there and the Department of Land Management will decide whether or not to open an investigation into the case.
