The Espírito Santo Hospital in Évora (HESE) today reached the maximum capacity of the intensive care unit for patients with covid-19.

It is the second time it has happened in the last days. The information was provided to DianaFM by HESE’s Office of Communication and Marketing.

“The first UCI COVID capacity was registered last Thursday and, despite some vacancies, in the meantime, today it has returned to full capacity,” said the source.

HESE’s COVID ICU has eight patients with covid-19, in addition to the 15 who are in the ward, for a total of 23 people infected with covid-19 admitted to the hospital.

“Our main concern is to maintain the response capacity we have achieved so far,” the source stressed, indicating that the Évora hospital did not receive patients with covid-19 from outside the region, nor did it send them to other hospitals.

According to a source from HESE’s Office of Communication and Marketing, work is underway to create a new COVID intensive care unit, which will “be born” on the fourth floor of the Espírito Santo building, the main building of the hospital.

The future COVID ICU, whose works are planned for the end of this year, will have “another 11 beds”, in addition to the “eight already existing” in the multipurpose intensive care unit (PICU), making “a total of 19 beds for critical patients ”.
