A shooting caused several injuries on Friday in a shopping center near Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the United States. The information is being advanced by various North American media.
Wauwatosa Mayor Dennis McBride told CNN television that none of the injured appeared to be at risk for life. A large-scale police operation continued in the vicinity of the Mayfair Mall, where the shooting occurred. The suspect in this incident is on the run.
Television channel WISN-TV reported that at least five people were carried out of the mall on stretchers, of which at least two were “sitting” and appeared to be conscious.
Some people remained at the mall while police searched for a suspect. The television station interviewed several people outside the mall who said they had friends hiding in stores inside.
The mall’s owner, Brookfield Properties, said in a statement that it was “discouraged and angry” that customers and merchants were subjected to this violent incident, declining to comment further.
There was a shooting at the Mayfair Mall in February, in which a city police officer, Joseph Mensah, shot and killed Alvin Cole, a 17-year-old black man. Police argued that Cole was on the run from the police. Mensah, who is also black, justified killing Cole because he pointed a gun at him.
For several months, the mall was the subject of sporadic protests, following the shooting.
