The pharmaceutical company Pfizer announced on Wednesday that it had completed clinical trials of the vaccine against covid-19, adding that the results obtained guarantee an efficacy of 95% of the product.

The American company adds that the results show that there were no serious side effects in the trial volunteers.

The data revealed by Pfizer, which is developing the vaccine with BioNtech, is above the 90% announced after the first preliminary tests, and this becomes the most effective vaccine announced. after 94.5% of the Modern American also.

According to the pharmaceutical company, the results indicate that the vaccine prevented the development of cases of medium and severe severity in volunteers infected with COVID-19. The vaccine developed also showed an efficacy of 94% in the elderly, one of the groups considered at risk.

The results of the clinical trials come less than a year after researchers began work on the vaccine, and its release broke all records for speed in developing a vaccine, a process that normally takes years.

The results mark an important step forward in the historic eight-month journey to complete a vaccine capable of ending this devastating pandemic.Albert Bourla, CEO of Pfizer, says in a statement.

To be cleared by the conservatorship, the Food and Drug Administration, the pharmaceutical company says that around 50 million doses may be available by the end of the year, with 1.3 billion in the latter half of 2021.

The vaccine trials included nearly 44,000 volunteers, half of whom received both doses. The results show that the efficacy of the drug is compatible with all ages and ethnicities.

the side effects the most common being fatigue, with 3.7% of volunteers complaining of fatigue after the second dose.

The rapid evolution of the virus helped increase the speed of the tests, as the volunteers contracted infections more quickly, says the pharmaceutical laboratory.

Both Pfizer and Moderna have developed vaccines that use new technology never before approved for human use. Both labs use a synthetic version of the coronavirus’ genetic material, called mRNA, to program a person’s cells to make many copies of a fragment of the virus. This fragment, in turn, triggers alarms in the immune system and stimulates it to attack, if the person is exposed to the real virus.

The authorization of the vaccine will focus on the distribution process. The medicine should be stored at a temperature of -70ºC. Pfizer will distribute the vaccine in packages of one to five thousand doses protected with dry ice and equipped with GPS sensors.

Pfizer vaccine can be stored in conventional refrigerators for up to five days, or in special refrigerators for up to 15 days, as long as the dry ice is replenished and the boxes are not opened more than twice a day.
