Chega confirmed this Tuesday, after leaving an audience with the President of the Republic, that he will vote against the case of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and that the Government wants to extend the state of emergency. André Ventura was justified with the “absurd” measures imposed by the Executive.

“We feel disappointed and disappointed in the last vote on the state of emergency after the meeting with the government. For this reason, we are not going to make the state of emergency possible on Friday,” Ventura assured in Belém.

The Chega deputy described the restrictions imposed by the government as “absurd”, especially on weekends, considering that they are creating “gigantic economic and social chaos.” For this reason, the abstention in the last state of emergency will change to the vote against if there is a next one.

“We will not make a state of emergency possible again without knowing the real conditions under which the restrictions are imposed,” André Ventura said. The deputy added that he refuses to pass a “blank letter” for the government to legislate “as it sees fit” and “without paying attention to anything.”

Asked by journalists, Ventura said that Chega abstained in the last vote on the state of emergency because he agreed that there must be “some limitations” in the country to contain the pandemic. However, the restrictions “practically throughout the country are not justified,” he said.

The deputy also revealed that the party filed, this Tuesday, a legal action for the “immediate lifting” of restrictions on restaurants during the weekend.

Regarding the State Budget (OE), Ventura reinforced that he will vote against, accusing BE and PCP of being “willing to jump off the boat.”

IL “very surprised” if weekend restrictions are maintained

João Cotrim Figueiredo, from the Liberal Initiative (IL), confirmed that the party will vote against again if there is an intention to prolong the state of emergency.

The deputy considered “evident to all” that the weekend restrictions “do not make any sense”, and said he would be “very surprised” if they are maintained in the next decree.

“Close [o país] the weekend at 1 pm makes people pile up in the morning and hurts thousands and thousands of businesses throughout the country, ”said Cotrim Figueiredo.

The parliamentarian said he could accept the state of emergency if he knew data to which he guaranteed not to have had access “more than three months ago”, such as the “impact” of the restrictive measures and their “real effectiveness” in the country.

Regarding the OE, Cotrim argued that the document “does not prepare for the recovery of the economy and does not protect people.” The deputy defended the reduction of the VAT in the restoration to 6% and the return of the IRC.
