The Ecological Party “Os Verdes” (ENP) said Tuesday that the Government is thinking of “staggering” containment measures by municipalities “in three according to severity.” The ENP indicates that the intention of the Socialist Executive is that, after the renewal of the state of emergency, only the municipalities “with more than 960 daily cases of contagion” have mandatory confinement on weekends.

“The President of the Republic had the opportunity to inform us that the Government is now considering the possibility of scaling the municipalities in three according to severity”, revealed the parliamentary leader of the ENP, José Luís Ferreira, after the meeting with the President of the República, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, on the State Budgets for 2021 (OE2021) and the state of emergency.

According to José Luís Ferreira, the Socialist Executive wants to advance with three levels of restrictions: a minimum level for municipalities with 240 to 480 daily cases of contagion by Covid-19, in which the restriction measures will be “lighter”, an intermediate level for municipalities between 480 and 960 daily cases; and a maximum level, “where the restrictions will be more intense”, for municipalities with more than 960 daily cases.

Contrary to what happens with the current state of emergency, in which all municipalities with more than 240 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days have mandatory confinement on weekends from 1:00 p.m. ” only at the maximum level would there be the limits that now exist at the weekend level ”.

The ENP, which always voted against states of emergency due to the pandemic, also insisted that, “for the Government to fight the pandemic, a state of emergency is not necessary” and that this instrument must be “seen as an end-of-line solution “. . “We believe that the measures to be taken do not require the use of such an extreme instrument, such as the state of emergency,” said José Luís Ferreira.

“Only when all the solutions fail does it enter a state of emergency,” he added.
