The President of the Government, António Costa, and the Minister of Health, Marta Temido, signed this Monday afternoon, in Vila Verde, a protocol with ten Misericórdias from the districts of Braga, Porto and Vila Real, for the realization of dozens of thousands of medical consultations and surgeries, on behalf of the National Health Service.

The visit was confirmed to JN by the provider of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Vila Verde, Bento Morais. “Our institution will host the signing of agreements with the National Health Service for consultations and surgeries, between November 12, 2020 and December 31, 2021,” he revealed.

The president of the Northern Regional Health Administration, Carlos Nunes, is also expected to attend the formal ceremony on Monday.

In addition to the Santa Casa da Misericórdia Hospital in Vila Verde, the Government will also sign protocols with the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Fão, Esposende, Póvoa de Lanhoso, Riba de Ave (Braga district), Lousada, Marco de Canavezes, Felgueiras and Vila do Conde (Porto district) and Valpaços (Vila Real district).

Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Vila Verde will have “the burden of performing 20,000 medical consultations and 2,500 surgeries,” said Bento Morais, praising the installed capacity and the quality of the services of that institution.

“This protocol is one more recognition of the unique role of proximity that Misericórdias have played for centuries, also at the hospital level, always present in the most dramatic moments of our country, as is the case,” said Bento Morais.

Still with regard to the example of Vila Verde, which is identical to the rest of the grants, family doctors will refer priority cases, based on the Gerês-Cabreira, Braga, Barcelos and Vila Nova de Famalicão Health Centers.
