The Minister of Economy has revealed, this Saturday morning, that the Government has already supported or plans to support the restaurant sector in 1103 million euros, to offset a total turnover of 1,860 million euros in the first nine months of the year . . In response to the protests from the restaurant sector and the moment when businessmen gathered in Rossio, Lisbon, to demonstrate, Siza Vieira listed the support programs already in place and those that have not yet been implemented.
The minister acknowledged that the sector is going through very difficult times and assures that “despair is understandable in more extreme situations, in areas where demand has disappeared”, but hopes that the measures can help companies last longer.
According to the minister, these are the measures already adopted or announced, which the sector can use:
– Simplified design
-Support for progressive resumption
-Exceptional support for recovery
These three already listed supports total 286 million euros for the sector (amounts paid and exempt from TSU, in the context of the measures)
-Adaptation program (12 million euros), which supported the changes made in the spaces in the context of contagion prevention
-Credits by Tourism of Portugal or banking system
-Direct or guaranteed credit, amounting to 580 million euros
Siza Vieira also referred to additional measures, available until the end of the month through the program Support.pt (There will be 200 million non-refundable for restoration), and additional aid for restoration, due to the closure and consequent loss of income in these two weekends (it will be about 25 million euros, as estimated).
The program Support.pt It will be for micro and small companies with breakages greater than 25% of their turnover, which will be supported by a compensation of 20% of this turnover, based on the electronic invoice, and with an increase for nightlife companies. It will go into effect until the end of the month and accumulates like other support.
