Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa confesses that politically he does not like the political solution found for the formation of the new Regional Government of the Azores, which involves Chega, despite remembering that this is perfectly constitutional. The statements were made in Luso, where this Friday the President of the Republic met with tourism businessmen.

The President recalled his position regarding “non-systematic” parties, which includes Chega, and that he had expressed in the celebrations of April 25, 2018 in the Assembly of the Republic.

“I said that these parties were born from known causes, what they meant and what they brought. It is necessary to prevent its appearance, avoiding the causes of dissatisfaction that justify it, it is necessary to avoid the prohibition in the secretariat, but it is necessary to fight ideas in terms of ideas ”, said Marcelo.

Even so, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa stressed that, “constitutionally, I believe that there is nothing to point out to the Representative of the Republic in the Autonomous Region of the Azores (RAA)”, since the solution found is in every way similar to the “experience at the national level”. that resulted from the formation of the first government headed by António Costa.

“Who had competence to decide was the Representative of the Republic for the RAA, and he respected the Constitution, because it allows the party that constitutes the Government not to be the most voted, but the one with a parliamentary majority,” said the PR, who also indicated that he found nothing unconstitutional in the agreement.

Comparing the situation with the one experienced in the continent in 2015, Marcelo recalls that “having to” is different from “liking”, like “President Cavaco Silva, for very different reasons, when he formed the government he formed, he probably did not like it.”

Regarding the situation of tourist entrepreneurs in the downtown area, the PR guarantees that it will be “the spokesperson together with the Government and the health authorities” of the concerns of these companies, which, according to Marcelo, did not manage to recover enough in summer to cope with the losses of spring and the last “month and a half, two months.”

The president also recalls that he will meet with the parties next week to discuss the possible extension of the state of emergency and evaluate the effects of the measures now in force.
