Jerónimo de Sousa refused today “to admit that he is the chosen one” to remain in the leadership of the PCP after the congress at the end of the month and affirmed that “the party is not the prisoner of a single solution.”

“I cannot admit that I am the chosen one”, responded the general secretary of the PCP, in an interview with Radio Observador, questioned about the possibility that the central committee elect him for a new term in the XXI National Congress, on December 27, 28 and 29, in Loures, district of Lisbon.

And he answered most of the questions about his continuation as general secretary of the communists, sprinkled with laughter and smiles, as when one of the interviewers, Miguel Pinheiro, concluded that, from what he said, “he will continue in office.”

“Your perception,” Jerónimo commented, to then answer another question about whether a candidate will come out “of the mists,” with the phrase: “No, my party is never a prisoner of unique solutions.

Jerónimo de Sousa once again said that the question of the general secretary “will not be a problem” and that the PCP has a “laborious” way of electing the leader that is different from the other parties that have “chief candidates.”

“The secretary general is not an organ. He is chosen by the central committee, which in turn is elected in Congress. This is a lot of work,” he said.
