There are several provinces in the country that are crossing the red line established by the General Directorate of Health (DGS) to place places in confinement, that is, 240 people sick with Covid-19 for every 100,000 inhabitants.
From 121 risky counties, Portugal can go to 150, and there are five more in the Algarve alone: Faro, Portimão, Vila Real de S. António, Albufeira and Vila do Bispo.
The mayor of Faro, although he still hopes to not see his municipality included in the black list, is looking forward to the decision that will come out this Thursday from the Council of Ministers. “We have around 180 active cases, in the last 14 days we have exceeded 150, which is more than 240 per 100,000 inhabitants,” reveals Rogério Bacalhau.

“If there is no change in criteria, we are expected to enter risky municipalities,” says the mayor, who regrets that the numbers have increased in recent weeks. “About a month ago we were around 40 to 50 cases and now it has been spreading, so we have crossed the red line.”
“This is going to be very bad for the entire economy, particularly for the restoration,” predicts Rogério Bacalhau. He maintains that measures will have to be taken to support the restoration, however, he believes that “the municipalities have little capacity to help.”
“There are many establishments, there are million-dollar losses, we are preparing Christmas campaigns to help commerce and restaurants, but all are palliative,” he says. Rogério Bacalhau believes that the government will have to create non-reimbursable lines of credit “to maintain activity and employment.”
“Municipalities by themselves do not have the capacity to resolve this economic crisis associated with the pandemic,” he concludes.
Already the mayor of Portimão, another of the municipalities indicated for having already crossed the “red line”, considers that the news that gives the place as a possible risk zone are nothing more than speculation and is waiting to see what the decision of the City Council will be. of Ministers.
