Spain now requires a negative PCR test for travelers, including those from Portugal

Spain will require a negative PCR test for all travelers from risk countries who arrive, as of November 23, at an airport or port in the country. The test must be done up to 72 hours before arrival and the risk list is Portugal.

According to the The countryIn the case of European countries and the Schengen zone, the Spanish authorities will follow the risk map drawn up by the European Center for Disease Control. It states that the only exceptions at this time are Norway, Finland and Greece. For other countries, the risk is evaluated based on the incidence of cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days.

Travel agencies, tour operators and air or maritime transport companies, as well as any agent that sells plane or boat tickets, must inform passengers of the new requirement, which will be officially published tomorrow in the Official State Gazette.

Before arriving in Spain, travelers must complete a health control form that will include the question of whether there is a negative PCR test within 72 hours prior to travel. The authorities may at any time demand proof that this test has been carried out, and the traveler must have an original document, on paper or electronic, written in Spanish or English, according to the EFE agency.

This measure was required by the autonomous communities, specifically the Community of Madrid, and there are other European countries that have already required a negative ITP since August, such as Italy and Greece.

The new measure complies with the European recommendation of October 13, which advised the member states of the European Union to base their epidemiological situation on their travel restrictions in the European Union, establishing a color code by area.
