COVID-19. Portugal reaches a new maximum of deaths in 24 hours with 82 dead. There are 4,935 more cases of infection

This Wednesday Portugal counts another 82 deaths related to Covid-19 and 4,935 new cases of infection by the new coronavirus, according to the General Directorate of Health (DGS).

The DGS epidemiological situation bulletin indicates that of the 82 deaths registered in the last 24 hours, 44 occurred in the North region, 19 in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, 17 in the Center region, and two in Alentejo.

Algarve, the Autonomous Region of Madeira and the Autonomous Region of the Azores do not have deaths to register, as they did last Tuesday.

Regarding the number of new cases, the northern region also registered the highest national increase with 2,845 cases of infection, followed by the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley with 1,185, the Center region with 743, the Algarve with 80 and the Alentejo with 44.

Then, the Azores with 21 new confirmed cases and Madeira, which has 17 new cases of infection.

Since Tuesday, 43 more people have been admitted to the room, with 2,785 admissions now. There are 9 more people in the intensive care units, where there are 391 people.

The DGS also states that health authorities have 89,107 contacts under surveillance, 956 fewer than on Tuesday, and that 3,475 patients were reported to have recovered in the last 24 hours, for a total of 110,353 since the start of the pandemic.

The North region continues to be the one that registers the most new cases: 2,845 in the last 24 hours, adding 94,057 and adding 1,414 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, in March.

In the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley, more than 1,185 new cases of infection were reported, which now represent 71,936 cases and 1,181 deaths.

In the Central region, another 743 cases of infection were registered, with a total of 17,759 cases and 389 deaths.

In Alentejo, 44 ​​new cases of covid-19 were registered, for a total of 3,685 cases and 71 deaths.

The Algarve region has reported 80 new cases of infection today, now totaling 3,938 cases and 31 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Autonomous Region of the Azores, 21 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours, totaling 513 detected infections and 15 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Madeira registered 17 more cases in the last 24 hours, representing 584 infections and two deaths.

Confirmed cases are distributed in all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 40 and 49 years.

The new coronavirus has already infected at least 87,025 men and 105,147 women in Portugal, according to reported cases.

Of the total number of fatalities, 1,590 were men and 1,513 women.

The highest number of deaths is still concentrated in people over 80 years of age.

The covid-19 pandemic caused at least 1,275,113 deaths in more than 51.5 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
