The figures of the pandemic in Portugal leave no room for doubt. As Prime Minister António Costa said, the country is in a very serious situation and it is necessary to act as quickly as possible. In this sense, yesterday a set of measures was announced to implement the State of Emergency.

In addition to the information on social networks and on the SomosOn website, Civil Protection also sent an SMS to the population.

After sending an SMS to ask the Portuguese to wear a mask, wash their hands, keep their physical distance and install the app STAYAWAY COVID, Civil Protection has already warned of the new measures that will come into force tomorrow.

It should be noted that the most restrictive measures are for 121 municipalities that have a high contagion rate. You can see here which municipalities are affected by the new measures. It should be noted that every 15 days the status of these 121 counties will be evaluated to decide which ones will leave and which will enter the list of those that will be subject to stricter measures to control the pandemic.

Just yesterday, after the announcement of the measures, the Prime Minister stressed that the situation the country is going through is very serious. António Costa recognizes that the measures are extremely harsh and difficult for all of us.

Measures announced by Prime Minister António Costa

  • Limitation of circulation on public roads in 121 municipalities (high risk), between 11:00 p.m. and 05:00 a.m., with exceptions for those who go to or return from work, among others.
  • Limitation of circulation on public roads, in 121 municipalities, in the next two weekends from 1:00 p.m.
  • The possibility of realizing body temperature measurements by non-invasive means, in access to:
    • Work places;
    • Educational establishments;
    • Means of transport;
    • Commercial, cultural and sports spaces.
  • The possibility of requiring diagnostic tests for COVID-19 in the following situations:
    • In health establishments.
    • In residential structures;
    • In educational establishments;
    • When entering and leaving the national territory, by air or sea;
    • In penitentiary establishments;
    • Other locations, as determined by DGS.
  • The possibility of requesting resources, means and health facilities from the private and social sector, after an attempted settlement and with fair compensation.
  • The mobilization of human resources to strengthen traceability (e.g., conduct epidemiological surveys, contact tracing, tracing people under active surveillance), namely:
    • Workers in prophylactic isolation;
    • Workers of the risk group;
    • Teachers without a teaching component;
    • Members of the Armed Forces.
