Socialist deputy Ricardo Pinheiro will replace José Mendes as Secretary of State for Planning, a change that was announced this Friday through a note published on the website of the Presidency of the Republic.
“The President of the Republic accepted the Prime Minister’s proposal to resign, at his request, José Fernandes Gomes Mendes, as Secretary of State for Planning, and the appointment, in the same position, of Ricardo Miguel Furtado Pinheiro”, it reads yes in the note.
The inauguration of the new Secretary of State to the Minister of Planning, Nelson de Sousa, will take place this Friday, at 8:30 p.m., in the Palace of Belém.
Ricardo Pinheiro was mayor of Campo Maior, district of Portalegre, the circle for which he was elected deputy in the last legislative elections.
In parliament, Ricardo Pinheiro has been the coordinator of the PS Parliamentary Group in the Committee on the Environment, Energy and Spatial Planning.
He is also part of the working group to monitor the asbestos removal process in public buildings and is an alternate member of the parliamentary committee on transparency and status of deputies.
The last change of government occurred on September 16, when the prime minister replaced five secretaries of state, a reshuffle that later included the ministries of Education, Health, Infrastructure and Housing, and the Sea.
This recomposition of the Government, like the current one, with the change of a single Secretary of State, did not change the dimension of the executive.
In addition, the same happened with the first remodeling of the current legislature, which occurred five months ago, with the replacement of Mário Centeno by João Leão as Minister of State and Finance and the consequent change of three Secretaries of State, who took office in the June, 15.
The XXII Constitutional Government, the second minority executive headed by António Costa, took office on October 26, 2019 at the Ajuda Palace, in Lisbon, after the victory of the PS in the legislative elections on October 6, without an absolute majority, composed of by 19 ministers and 50 secretaries of state.
