Portugal today registers 7,497 new cases of infection by the new coronavirus, the highest daily value since the start of the pandemic, and another 59 deaths related to covid-19, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS).
According to the bulletin released today, the number of new cases includes the sum of 3,570 cases, as a result of the delay in the notification of laboratories, mainly a laboratory in the North region, since October 30.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Portugal has registered a total of 156,940 confirmed cases of infection with the new coronavirus and 2,694 deaths. According to the General Directorate of Health, data by municipality will be updated this week, after the reformulation of indicators related to new cases of covid-19.
The application of the control measures is based on the accumulated incidence during 14 days, which corresponds to the number of new cases in the last 14 days per 100 thousand inhabitants.
“It is intended that this be the main metric used in the risk assessment of each municipality so that citizens can follow the evolution of the pandemic in the municipalities,” explains the DGS in a footnote to the bulletin.
The partial confinement came into force today in 121 municipalities in mainland Portugal where there is a “high risk of transmission of covid-19”, with the duty to stay at home, except for authorized trips, such as shopping, work, education and physical activity. .
In addition to the specific measures for these municipalities, the resolution of the Council of Ministers published in the Diário da República prolongs the declaration of catastrophic situation throughout the continental national territory until 11:59 p.m. on November 19.
