Portugal remained, for the second consecutive day, with new numbers of infected below three thousand positive cases of covid-19. 45 more people died from the new coronavirus.
With more than 2,596 positives, Portugal now has 149,443 infections since the start of the pandemic, on March 2. In 24 hours, more than 3,295 people were recovered (a total of 86,589 recovered) and there are fewer 744 active cases of covid-19 in Portugal. Currently, 60,219 people are still infected with SARS-CoV-2.
Regarding the condition of the patients, there are 94 more people admitted to Portuguese hospitals and another 26 in intensive care units (ICU). There are currently 2349 patients with covid-19 in hospital units and 320 who need additional care in the ICU.
Most of the deaths registered this Tuesday in the bulletin of the General Health Directorate (DGS) were older than 80 years (16 men and 18 women). Eight people who died with COVID-19 were between 70 and 79 years old (four men and four women) and three men were between 60 and 69 years old.
The Northern Region, the first to be affected by the new coronavirus, is the most affected in terms of mortality and infections. In the last 24 hours, it has accumulated another 1,547, for a total of 67,692 cases and 21 more deaths, for a total of 1,172 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, the second most affected region in the country, have accumulated 626 cases of covid-19 in the last 24 hours, compared to 845 on Monday, for a total of 61,690 since the start of the pandemic. Another 18 people died in one day in this region.
In the Center, an area very affected in the first wave, the figures are somewhat softer this Tuesday, with 292 registered cases, against 333 on Monday and 430 on Sunday. The cumulative number now stands at 13,342 infections. The Center has recorded five more deaths, a total of 328 victims since March.
Alentejo and Algarve reversed the trend from Monday to Tuesday. The Alentejo Region accumulated 57 positive cases in the last 24 hours, against 42 on Monday, for a total of 2907 and another death in 24 hours. In the extreme south of the country, the trend was the opposite, with 19 fewer cases in the region, 47 in the last 24 hours, compared to 66 on Monday.
On the islands the trend continues, and Madeira is more affected by the second wave than the Azores. In the “Pearl of the Atlantic” 19 more cases were reported, for a total of 478, while the “Islands of the Mist” registered eight positives, for a cumulative of 379.
