Sindika Dokolo, 48, was born in Kinshasa, in the former Zaire, now the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Married to the businesswoman and daughter of former Angolan president José Eduardo dos Santos since 2002, Dokolo is said to have been the victim of cardiac arrest and drowning, according to various Congolese media.
The businessman had four children as a result of his marriage to Isabel dos Santos.

On her Twitter account, Isabel dos Santos posted a photo of the couple without captions. In the comments there are several followers of the businesswoman who express their condolences.

Sindika Dokolo was the greatest collector of contemporary African art, a taste he inherited from his father, Augustin Dokolo Sanu, a banker who died in 2001. As a businessman, he was a member of the board of directors of the Angolan cement company Nova Cimangola and also of Amorim Energia, which has an indirect stake of 33.34% in Galp, and a shareholder of the luxury jewelry company De Grisogono.
Sindika Dokolo has a degree in Economics, Commerce and Foreign Languages from the Pierre and Marie Curie University.
